ABOUT

The writer’s writer

A wide angle photograph of freelance writer Sophie Campbell sitting cross-legged on a red couch, reading a book in her colourful, maximalist living room.

Hi! I’m Sophie Campbell, a story-obsessed freelance writer

I write. And I write about writing. Meta, I know.

Put another way: I’m a freelance creative content writer for writing tools and communities.

I write blogs, email content, eBooks, web copy and social media copy for literary brands and business owners who are building something – an app, a physical product or a community – to help creative writers hone their craft.

This covers writing tech and apps as well as writing coaches, mentors, arts organisations and arts charities promoting writing and reading.

So, you’re a content writer writing for businesses that cater to writers?

Yep! It really is ‘the inception of niches’ – as coined by Bethany Jewkes on LinkedIn.

But there is a method to my madness…

As well as nearly a decade in marketing under my belt, I'm a lifelong fiction writer and prize-winning poet with two creative writing degrees.

✍️ I know how you can attract more creative writers to your platform and grow your business without having to take on extra content creation work. (I’ll do it for ya.)

✍️ I can create magnetic content that helps you make more sales because I know your target audience inside out. And how do I know them so well? Because, well, I am your target audience!

So, if your offering has been lovingly crafted with writers in mind and you need a go-to content writer to support your growth, I’m your gal.

Still curious?

Okay, here’s some more about me

Content writer. Copywriter. Fiction writer. Poet. Creative writing facilitator. On a scale from 1-10, how obvious is it that I was a teacher’s pet in English at school?

  • I’ve had short stories, poems and flash fictions published in The Woolf, Surely Mag, Bright Flash Literary Review, The Speculative Book, Razur Cuts and more.

  • I won the poetry prize in Bold Types, GWL’s Annual Scottish Women's Creative Writing Competition, in 2023.

  • I have a Master of Research degree in Creative Writing from the University of Strathclyde. For my postgrad, I wrote a novella and literature review on dementia in contemporary fiction.

  • I live in a small town on the West Coast of Scotland with my husband, Jamie.

  • I’ve attempted NaNoWriMo three times. Won once. Still have 3 unfinished novels. I’m currently working on a novella-in-flash.

  • I ran a literary magazine during lockdown and published two digital issues of Silk + Smoke.

  • I grew up in the countryside in a cottage built by my grandpa. I’ll buy it back one day when I win the lottery.

A few of my favourite things

  • Favourite authors: Elizabeth Strout and Lily King.

  • Favourite films: GoodFellas, LOTR: Return of the King, Trainspotting, Clueless and The Shining.

  • Favourite artists/bands: Father John Misty, Fleetwood Mac, Honeygrip, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Talking Heads and Led Zeppelin.

If you’ve made it this far, you must feel like you know me pretty well by now. So, you might as well take a look at how we can work together…
